Bananna Silk Handspun Yarn
I am so so excited about this new yarn not only is it gorgeous and handmade but it helps to support a small family business in Nepal. They start women up with their own businesses--which is hard to find. I was lucky enough to have come across the opportunity to work with them through a mutual friend and fellow mom/fiber business owner stateside. I was so excited to hear about this family that she had become close with. I felt that this fit in perfectly with CHY’s focus on supporting small scale hand crafting and women having money and flexibility.
It has the sheen of silk or Tencel with an eco-friendly, sustainable (made from the waste from banana harvesting), fair-trade, women-owned, small family business benefit.
custom-spun for us to be soft and baby-friendly. Much of what's out there is a very rough, rug-like bast
They slightly vary from skein to skein but they are all roughly sport weight/ DK and could be used in either pattern with some flexibility.
Some are in 3 oz skeins and run a bit thinner more sport ( approx 88 yards)
Some are in 5 oz skeins and run a bit closer to dk ( approx 100 yards)
Hand dyed by CHY in warm or cool metallics in a gradual color changing gradient pattern.
