Making Holiday Yarn pom pom Ornaments with Kids

Well one of the many joys/challenges of working from home as a mom or caretaker is you get to switch gears at the drop of a hat all the time. Especially during the holiday season it seems like there’s always some sort of last minute group project or something that is causing me to run to ingles to buy chex cereal for a class full of ginger bread houses or something at 7:30 am

Well yesterdays adventure in improvising was my 8 year olds class is having a holiday party this week and the teacher wanted there to be a “ craft” I must say I admire his ability to delegate because yesterday morning I received a message that they still hadn’t gottona craft. I’d be waiting on one of the other moms who’s really into this whole room mom thing to jump in and make some sort of goodie bag craft for everyone but I guess the regular super moms were busy so they were left with me…. this is not my strong suit. So on the way back from Aldi I figured I had a house full of yarn and half a brain I should be able to figure something out. My daughter LOVES crafts so it made me sad to think that they wouldn’t have something fun to make a mess with during their party. I whipped up a prototype for little yarn pom pom ornaments , a perfect stash buster.

The teacher seemed cool with the idea so the next step was seeing if my 8 year old could master it so she could teach the class.

It’s a simple process you just pick out either one color or a few and wrap either multiple strands or a single strand if just doing one solid color around your hand multiple times.

Leave it loose enough that you can slip it off your fingers and then cinch it at the waist with a separate piece of yarn.

cut the loops on both ends and fluff them up and then tie the “ cincher yarn “ into a loop for a hanger.

Here are some pictues as shown with my daughter for if you find yourself in a similar bind.

They were fun. We ended up just precutting the yarn to make little kits for each kid.
