How to spin a smoother yarn with Pre Drafting your wool Yarn spinning tips for beginners

If spinning has become a struggle for you and you need some help, then take heart. You are not alone. Many people experience the same difficulties before they really get the hang of this wonderful craft.

One of my main tips is always to loosen up your fiber stash before you start spinning. I do this with both braids and batts.

You will greatly reduce problems with excessive twist and no draft at all if you take the time to pre draft your fibers, saving more time in the finished spinning step. If you can, always prepare your fiber before you spin it.

Take the time to gently pull apart your fibers ( not all the way just pull a little bit) your fibers and you will take a lot of time off your spinning time and greatly reduce excessive twist. If you’re not struggling with your fiber or yarn as it's being spun, there’s less chance of getting overtwisted.

All spinning techniques involve drawing out fiber, either by drafting the fiber directly or by carding the fiber into a batt to make a rolag. The term for drawing fiber out is called pre drafting.
